HANS,
I LIKE THIS PATTERN! OF COURSE, I LIKE ALL OF THEM THAT YOU CREATE! I PARTICULARLY LIKE THE WAY YOU USE DIFFERENT HOOK BRANDS, STYLES,SHAPES, EVEN SIZES TO GET A CERTAIN LOOK OR EFFECT. IN TODAYS WORLD WITH SO MANY CHOICES AVAILABLE, DO YOU CONSIDER THE SHAPE OF THE HOOK AS YOU BRING A PATTERN TO LIFE AT THE VICE?
HAVE YOU EVER TIED A PARTICULAR PATTERN AND FOUND OUT LATER THAT IT LOOKS BETTER OR FISHES BETTER (OR HAS BETTER HOOKING QUALITIES) BASED ON A DIFFERENT HOOK STYLE?
YOURS FROM THE DEN,

Doug,
The hook is the canvas on which to paint the fly. I pick my hook on the basis of how I want the pattern to look when finished.
Mostly it works out, and occasionally not. In case of the latter... well, there is always another, more suitable hook somewhere...
Cheers,
Hans W

P.S. ARE THERE ANY LADY TIERS OUT THERE?
Good question.
What appears to me to be a primarily male orientated pastime: Surely there must be some female tiers of the soft hackled wet fly out there of whatever capability and talent. Not that the C and T matters to us.. it's the fish that are the ultimate judge.
You saw the question.. Post the answer ladies!

The use of that fiber for the body is very intereting. I can imagine it would be effective. So many patterns and so little time. I've tied something similar with ostrich herl for the body, but this really looks lively. I hope you'll report on it if you ever get to test it out. You've got a lot of testing to do.
