Doing my best to narrow down a suitable combination for the PMD. Here are a few techniques. Final version to be determined, but I'm trying to work it out. I see these as drowns or cripples, fished in the film.

PMD Dun - Light Aussie Opossum on #19 Silk 1180

Hook: Daiichi 1180 #16
Thread: Griffiths 14/0 Orange
Hackle: Medium Dun Hen
Tail: same
Abdomen: Aussie Opossum prespun on Orange #19 Gossamer Silk

PMD Dun - Quill, Seal and Light Dun

Thread: Griffiths 14/0 Orange
Hackle: Light Medium Dun Hen
Tail: Medium Dun Hen
Abdomen: Pale Dun Hen Hackle Quill
Thorax: Natural and Olive Seal plus Hares Mask Edge Blend.

PMD Dun - Cinn, #19 and Dun

Hook: Daiichi 1180 #16

Hackle: Medium Dun Hen
Tail: Medium Dun Hen
Abdomen: Pale Cinnamon Turkey tail (2 Fibers) twisted with orange #19 Gossamer Silk

I have a series of nymphs as well that need photographed and posted. I'll get to it.

Any comments of suggestions might shorten my design process. I would certainly appreciate it.

Honestly Will, I have nothing to say other than wow. These all look so amazing, and you'd be spot on as grouping these as cripples/drowned.. such a great selection of materials tied masterfully to a hook :)

I know this probably doesn't help you out in choosing one! :D Oh wellllll :P

And I signed up for that swap why again?
Superb flies William, beautifully tied and I think I have to rethink my own offerings.

No. 3 gets my vote--we're nothing if not decisive these days.

For a drown, I like the first one. For a cripple I would go with the last one.

I vote for the second one, and the first one and third one (but not necessarily in that order).

Just being helpful (not).

All three are remarkable, but #2 floats my boat, then #3 then #1. I may have to add #2 to the PMD box.

William ~ I'd quickly make room for all three of these in my vest, but the third one would be the first to get tied on.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The insect ranges from orange to olive, usually with grey and tan notes and I could chase that color all day, but I would be happy with something close. (I really like the color of Jim Slattery's PMD Flymph, same color as the thorax on Hans' recent post of a transitional pattern.)

I'm liking the third fly myself with the slim body profile and seal/hackle combo. I really need to get on the water soon. I'm dying to drift these guys. The swaps help some...but it's enough already with the weather. It's time. Let's go. :D

Edit - Maybe it would be the second fly. :?

Edit 2 - the first one. nope...the third. :D
