Hans, the tone of this pheasant tail is very rich. I have a couple ringneck pheasant tails dyed orange, but maybe a bit brighter than this. It's a great looking little bug.

William,
The European (or Common) pheasant tends to have a darker, 'redder' natural color tail. The Ring-necked pheasant tail feathersmostly have a lighter, greyish base color and will take on the orange dye more prominently. Both have their place.
(To the best of my knowledge the birds on both sides of the Big Pond are the same species of bird - Phasianus colchicus)
Cheers,
Hans W

Gorgeous little morsel...
Did you dye the pheasant tail, or did you buy it already dyed? Love the rich dark color.

Hans, are pheasant barbs twisted before wrapped?

Not in this case. Two barbs, wrapped side by side.
If you closely observe the body you van see all the parallel wraps. This would not be such when twisted.
