Playing around with a very poor quality Cree dry hackle (has nice coloring though and more like hen) and some free sample dubbing I got at a show. The dubbing is UV fine and dry but I really liked the looks of it. Hope the fish think the same. Just a general pattern searching pattern.

Hook: Mustad 94842 #16
Thread: black Griffith's 14/0
Tail: fibers from Cree hackle
Body: Spirit River UV2 fine and dry (hexagenia)
Hackle: Cree hackle

If the fish find it, they will like it! Your pattern is amazing! I really like the looks of the dubbing you have...UV Fine! It looks lumenous almost glowing! I suspect that the Cree hackle will soften some once well soaked and all of your finney friends will eat this pattern up with great approval! You did an excellent job friend as always!

Thanks guys. The hackle is actually pretty soft. Not good quality dry as it was sold as but it had great color and was a heck of a deal.

Kind of ironic, scarey Carl. I tied some Muskrats today with Indian Rooster cape, same hooks, same size. I tied the hackle the same direction I would hen hackle, and all the wraps are touching.

They are not in your league of technique. Your pattern is quite impressive to look at.

That's funny. India Rooster cape is probably what this cape is come to think of it.

I have never seen that, but i was thinking Atherton.

I recently bought a copy of Atherton's book. I look forward to reading it.

Carl, that hackle on anything would be hard to beat. Beautiful tones and contrast. Paired with that body material and you've got quite a distinct look. I'm looking at tying a pile of similar patterns to be fished as high and dry as I dare with a flymph. Maybe a soft rooster cape is the ticket. Nicely done.
