Killer Bugs

I tied a few on the Daiichi 1560 hook. These below are tied on a Daiichi 1740 hook though. I used copper wire on most. But a few of them I tied with red wire. I made some fatter, and some more slim. I saw Davie McPhail flies, and Oliver Edwards. So I went for the look of both. I must say they are a little challenging at first. I don't think any of these are pretty, but they ought to get the job done. I tied these on size 12, and size 14 hooks.

The killer bugs are not as easy a tie as they seem. It can be very difficult to get the yarn to tie in tight and form a smooth taper and not slip around. Those look pretty good. Especially the one to the left.

I agree. At first it was eating my lunch. Then it got a little easier. I was going by mostly Davie McPhail's method. I think the next time I do it, I am gonna try Oliver Edwards's method. I don't have the exact yarn, but we shall see how they work. I half of them in my regular box. I put the other half in my barbless box. The barbless box has barely been started. I just had to take a break from my spiders, to TRY this pattern. Now, back to spiders. :D

Ray, will do. I bet my local fishing buddies turn their nose up at them. But if they see me catching fish with them, I bet they will make some up too. I got them on a spider kick too. ROTFLLLLLLLLLLL. They saw me catching fish when they weren't, on spiders...now they are making a bunch of them up. So yes, my flies may be ugly....but I can see them working. Time will tell.

Good point there Hank. I do the best I can. I think the fish will go for these. Something tells me a catfish will hit them too. I could pass on them, especially the little ones. There are times when it seems the catfish go crazy over anything I throw. That is a joke between my fishing buddies and I. Another damn catfish!!! They all laugh. Some people have a hard time catching a catfish, but not me. I can't keep them away sometimes...lol.

Bill, I love that variation. Thanks for that link here. I just watched the video. I am gonna have to try that version as well. :D
DUBBN, glad you were inspired enough to try these in the future. I have so many patterns I want to tie, and try...it is ridiculous.
