I recently purchased a European hare skin and some English partridge, so I thought I would combine the two in a soft hackle.
Hook: Mustad 94842 #12
Thread: Dark brown Griffith's 14/0
Tail: English partridge fibers
Abdomen: European hare
Rib: Copper wire, abdomen only
Thorax: Pine squirrel
Hackle: English partridge

That looks like it's got the "right stuff".
Can't see any fish turning up its nose at that.
Very nice tie.

Aren't full Hare pelts fun? The is a myriad of colours, fur density and length...... and there is a LOT of it!
With careful "scissor selection" you can clip three materials from one clump. Spiky guard hairs from the tip of the clump, blue/grey mid section and off white/dun grey from the section closest the skin.
You are going to get to like your Hare pelt long before you get to the end of it!
Very nice fly! It has all the materials and colouration of a fly you just know will work well.

That is one material I haven't ever played ... a European Hare skin. I have masks, but not the skin. I love the looks of it on all the flies I have seen.
Great flymph example John.

You've been doing some fine work with classic materials and patterns. Thanks for showing us.

Thanks for the nice comments. The hare skin is very easy to blend and dub, and the guard hairs make for a nice, buggy look. The English partridge is interesting, too - I like the mottling of it, but the fibers seem quite a bit thicker than a Hungarian partridge so it is a little harder to get them to splay out. Once its wet, I doubt it will matter too much.
