Had some fun over the weekend playing around with the Wild Boar bristles and some "uses" there of. Natural light is pretty crappy here at the moment...... it is Winter, but perhaps the poor light is not a bad thing!

Simple Boar Spider.

Image

Hook- Black Magic #14 dry fly UE
Thread- Unknown light purple #14
Hackle- Starling body feather
Body- One thicker bristle from boars head.

Boar Rib.

Image

Hook- Kamasan B420 Sedge #12
Thread- as above
Hackle- Starling covert feather
Rib- One of the larger wild boar bristles
Body- Dark green produce bag
Thorax- Noodle dubbed Aussie possum chest fur

I do feel this rib may benefit from a coat of varnish as I feel it may slip under use on the shiny underbody.

Twisted Boar.

Image

Hook- Kamasan B420 Sedge #12
Thread- Unknown yellow #14
Hackle- Honey Grizzle Henny/Cock
Under Body- Tying thread
Over Body- 4 finer Boar bristles twisted and bought forward in slightly open turns
Thorax- Grey Aussie possum with underfur pinched off to leave mainly guard hairs.

Cool use of the material. This is about what I was thinking too. That third pattern really looks right to me. they could make nice ribbing for a fuzzy body.

Mataura mayfly, Howdy;

Truly good looking flies. Should prove difficult to keep the trouts
off of them when you do get a chance to fish them.
Good work Jeff.

Jeff - I am enjoying your winter tying! Lovely little killers you've crafted, mate. ;)

Thanks for the kind words everyone, apologies for the low light photos. One of these days I might invest in some lamps and set up a semi permanent photo booth.......... one day.

William, I think you may be right. On a fuzzy body the rib would stay put. I am not sure it will slip on the shiny produce bag, but I have suspicions.

Jeff,
These bristles have a nice taper that shows up especially on the third fly, in the rib.
Nice work.

I like the first one. All 3 are very clever. I think a bit of dubbing with it would be cool too. I would probably varnish the bristle for sure. You could also wrap another material with it, such as peccary, or horse hair etc...the possibilities are endless. Nice work Jeff! :D

Those bristles make for some very interesting patterns. Well done Jeff.
