This seems like most of the flies I fish, but its a nice shot of the woodcock hackle for reference. This is one of my standard favorites.
Woodcock and Grouse 1250
Hackle: Woodcock upper covert
Tying Thread: 14/0 Brown
Abdomen: Grouse tail herl
Rib: Dark Copper small
Thorax: Brown mole

That is a nice look at the woodcock. I generally think of woodcock as the counter complement to English grouse. A lot of the grouse has more dark with the red barring but the woodcock is generally red with the dark barring.

All good -- shapely hook, great material combo, wonderful taper to body, and beautiful set to the hackle.

Thanks for the comments. I would put this in a classic lift situation any day. I just wish I could get out there to make it happen. I'm wondering if the streams have evaporated in the last week. Unbelievable.

Thanks again, guys. I wish I could tie these things all day. Someday.
