I Love It!! This is a great fly, Hans. Sort of an improved Stewart's spider. Is the aftershaft feather wound around the hook?

Not in this case - aftershaft was laid flat, and lashed down by the ribbing material. As you can see the gold does not really show, so a perhaps better approach would be to twist the aftershaft together with the ribbing material and then wrap the body. This would most likely result in a more durable fly.

Nice Hans. How many starling feathers did it take to create such a robust hackle? From the shoulder or further down on the back?
