Wilted Spinach variant with Pukeko (WSP)

Hook: B 174 # 12
Thread: sheer olive
Shuck: loops of crystal flashabou (phosphorescent)
Body: dubbing: 50% yellow hare, 25% golden olive Seal, 25% Rainbow Firestar (thanks Ariel)
Hackle: Pukeko ( make a hackle with the thread) (Thanks Jeff)



Feather in a piece of foam to make the hackle



Feather in a kind of paperclip.



Here the stem of the hackle is cut off. These butts come in a loop of thread and then I turn a hackle.



Fishing for Rudd and Roach in a beautiful scenery but look out for the bicycles.



A fine Rudd ( 30 cm about 12 inch) caught on a Wilted Spinach fosfo variant with my splitcane rod build with "the old master".

Thanks for the variation, and the short walk through for making
the hackle. The Netherlands is a beautiful country and your photos always
show it off nicely. Another question for you... what is the average depth of the canals?

A canal like this is between 1 and 2 meters.

The big canals are 8 till 15 meters deep. Sometime we fish in such a big canal but we use fast sinking lines then.

The fish is a Rudd and the idea for the magic tool is a cheaper variation of the tools of Marc Petitjean. You do have the originals is'nt it true???

Jeff - Did you know the Pukeko worked so well on large Rudd?

Ray, no I did not, but they are the kind of feather that is going to create interest. They are soft barbed that do not require a lot of "action" or current to evoke life.

Ruard, great looking fly and a very neat way of using the larger feathers as a smaller hackle, well done.

Hi Jeff,

You triggered me when you said that the Pukeko feather was not used as a hackle in NZ. I think this is a way to use it for a softsofthackle fly.
