Tied just for the fun of it, but who knows - I might be pleasantly surprised when it gets wet 8-)

Let me ask more direct: what is 'wrong' with this fly, and how did it end up in that spot?

Hmmm...
OK, I'm willing to make a fool of myself. The wire wrap is not quite as perfectly tubular as we usually see on your flies. There is a barely perceptible waist between the thorax and body areas. Is the explanation related to the hidden hackle stem and the way you did the under wraps further down the body?

Warm, but not very.

Aside from an uneven underbody, which I doubt, I see a possibility. First, the diameter of the wire seems smaller at the bend than further up. I'm wondering if the write has some flex, or at least a soft composition that would create a varied diameter depending on tension while tying.

Or maybe it's those old vises that cause so many tying issues. :D
