Twisted Snail - soaked (please appreciate that the hackle and body will pulsate more under fishing conditions - submerged, or soaked and back in air not quite the same - but still 8-) )

Twisted Snail
Hook: Sprite Perfect International #14
Thread: Uni-thread 8/0, black
Collar: Magpie barbs
Body: Krystal flash, opal; ostrich herl, dyed black; peacock herl - twisted

Mike,

There are some patterns about which use that tied-down approach, mostly tadpole imitations. One would have to make the collar barbs a tad longer than I used, obviously.

Hi Hans,

It's surprising to see just how dense everything appears when wet. I bet it would work well in a brown color overall too! Great tie as usual.

Facinating fly, Hans. I like it a lot. I'm curious to know if you set out to design it as a snail pattern, or if you picked the name/pattern after you had tyed it? Either way, it looks like a terrific pattern.

Designed as a snail - a variation on the venerable Black & Peacock Spider.
