Depth Charge (brown)

Most of my wingless wets I tie to be fished dead drift in the film, or just under it, but on occasion I also want a faster sinking fly, which still retains the life of pulsating soft barbs. This BMN hook assist in that approach.

Hackle: French partridge breast feather
Body: Alpaca, dyed dark chestnut - slender

The name made me expect a fly with a tungsten bead head and a copper wire abdomen. This isn't what I was expecting to see, but I love the fly none the less. Nice surprise Hans.

Like the hook and the name Hans, and of course, the fly is tied wonderfully.

The large hook and minimal materials will help it sink out of the first few inches, on a fine leader, but what effect do you expect the alpaca hair to have? I have no idea if it would offer better submersion or might it limit the depth by it's composition? Just curious. Besides silk, what other natural materials will add to a SH's sink rate?
