After a winter of reading and reading and surfing and more reading and hassling a few very kind hearted souls I have a collection of spiders / soft wing wets. They will not win any tying awards or photography awards but I hope a few trout will look on them as food.

I will not be so bold yet to name them for those classics that I tried to copy.

I'd say you are off to a very good start. Keep tying. The more you tie, the better you will get. I'm sure the fish will appreciate you efforts and gobble them up.

Nice set of flies otter. I find the third one especially appealing (the one with the vertical soft hackle wing). I like the colors you picked, too.

I like the waterhen and the Stewart's black spider. They are all fishcatchers Otter, nice job.

Quite a few of them are tied on size 14 short shanks - look okay in the box but the camera really shows up what a scruffy tier I am. A perfectly tied fly improves after a bit of disintegration, I aim for that straight off the vice, thats my excuse and Im sticking by it.

And just for you Glassjet, a very sparse Stewarts with a lump of tying thread too awkward to touch up !!!!

Hook is a Kamasan B890 which is same or similar to Drennan Carbon Specimen and Daichi 1640 - size 14 - these are short shank hooks and my use is based on Mike Connors recommendations. My preferred choice for many flys is the Kamasan B160, which is down eye, these have all the qualities of the B160 and the straight eye is fantastic for allowing more wraps at the head without it looking enormous. Maybe its just my old eyesight but these hooks seem very inconspicious when dressed.

Thank you, I did not know that the Kamasan B890 is the same as the Drennan hook. I mostly use the Drennan super specialist witch is more heavy than the Daichi 1640.
