Hare & Duck Flymph

Post by kacbo » Thu Feb 17, 2011 7:53 am

hook ..... #12, 3X heavy
rib ....... copper wire
tail ....... mallard
body ..... hare dubbing + UV + pearl ICE dubbing
hackle ... mallard feather; don't know what type, for certain is small enough and soft hackle

Image

Another version without ribs, with bronze mallard in tail and some rusty antron were added to dubbing mix mentioned above...

Guys - Thank a lot!

@hankaye
Thread is brown, no name, well waxed and thick as 4/0 (I guess...).

Bluish-green is reflection of single pearl ICE dubbing fibre (Hareline) I used to mix with regular hare dubbing (90% hare + 5% pearl + 5% antron or UV of some color). This is not strict recipe, more the guideline, because it's very hard to count every fiber. :) Just chop them and mix few pinches with coffe ginder. It's not secret, just can not remember exact composition. I usually use three hare dubbing colors: dark gray, light gray and march brown/rust hue... Light gray is basic for both flymphs above. Unless I dubbed body Leinsering style (or dubbed with loop) I don't miss a chance to brush body with velcro. Hence the "buggy" look.

kacbo, I like the lively nature of these. That kind of ambiguous, buggy look is something I like to see. Thanks for posting these. We don't see a lot of duck hackles, but they are really nice.

William, nor I use duck hackle ever before, unless we are talking about CDC feathers. They are great as soft hackle but have that strange habit of keeping fly at surface... :) Bead puts them trough, but that's another story...
