Nickle Baetis

I have no idea how my buddy and I came up with the name "Nickle Baetis", but I do know it is a Variation of the Ice Breaker that is used alot on the Arkansas here in Colorado. For the past 4 years this pattern has never set the rivers on fire. What it has done is consistently catch fish when there is no obvious hatch going on.
Hook - 94840 Mustad size 14 - 20
Thread Abdomen - Gudebrod GX2 White (130 denier)
Body - Olive D-Rib (Small) Top colored with Dark Brown Sharpie
Rib - Hot Yellow wire (UTC Small)
Thread (Thorax/Head) Uni 8/0 Red
Thorax - Peacock Ice Dub
Collar - Dun Hen hackle

This will probably be the last fly I post a pic of until I get a better camera.
The fly listed here is a very easy pattern to tie, yet has saved my bacon on most of the rivers I fish.

Agreed, the pic's not that bad at all. Very cool pattern.....it's an attractor seems to me. i LOVE attractor patterns, wet or dry.

Wayne - I have a question about the body of the fly. As I understand your recipe, you are tying a white under body and then wrapping over it with the D-rib material. Then wrapping the wire in between the D-rib wraps. Am I understanding it correctly?

Yes, White underbody, Olive D-Rib, and Hot Yellow wire ribbing.

The original pattern has a Silver bead placed between the thorax body, and the Dun Collar. Being the ever stubborn fly fisher that I am. I refuse to tie a flymph or SH with a bead. Not being prejudice, or maybe I am, but I just cant see dressing these patterns with "Bling". I wont look down on you ( to your face) if you choose the bead, but I dont tie that way. :-)The flymph is a neat concept. It lends itself to a wide array of interpretation.

Wait, is that fly underwater? Just kidding. You commented about your camera elsewhere. Great fly. I don't tie with many beads, usually, except for BH Hares Ear Nymphs and Pheasant Tail Nymphs. I tie most without, but for some reason it kind of doesn't count on those two. Hilarious how that works out for each of us in our own way.

HEY! if your gonna fish nymphs (NOT flymphs, thass different), you might as well tye them with a bead........i think generally speakin', they work better that way. And it doesn't make the casting difficult at all............so what the heck. Plus, i don't like to use lead in the rivers.
