These were inspired by Donald Nicolson's recent spider post. I just loved the look of the last fly in the series and had to try tying the mylar body. I used wide pearlescent mylar, wrapped over black tying thread (Thanks Don).

Resistance is futile...you know you want to tye some... :D

Man, this series is just marinating in awesome sauce--the flymph is "best in show" IMO. :) No varnish over the mylar, though?

Simply amazing stuff -- without peer.

Strawberry Ice Cream

Strawberry Ice Cream
Hook - Mustad 3906B (Size 12)
Underbody - Woolly Nylon (White)
Abdomen - Large Pearlescent Mylar Tinsel (Clear)
Thread - 8/0 UNI-Thread (Black)
Thorax - Rabbit Dubbing (Hot Pink)
Hackle - Silver Badger Hen Neck Feather (Natural)

I was curious what the mylar tinsel would look like if it were wrapped over a white underbody, so I tyed this up. This is the same tinsel used in all of the other flies. The white underbody seems to bring out the pink/pearl cast to the body. A black underbody seems to shift the color towards metallic green. Pretty interesting.

I think the pink version has possibilities as steelhead conversion...
