Red game hackle

Post by Stendalen » Fri Nov 25, 2011 5:15 pm

Received beautiful Red Game Hen and Cock capes the other day that needed to be tested. Wonky ( ) head.

So yes, I did buy more flytying material despite my promise. And this was not all...

"Wonky Head" - That would make someone a great screen name. (friendly humor)

Would you mind posting a picture of the hackle skins? I'd love to see what they look like.

Cool fly. I love the look of the segmented body and the red hackle. Which hackle is this fly tyed with? (cock or hen - I am guessing cock hackle, but want to be sure).

Absolutely. The fly is actually tied with the hen. The feather was taken at the base (or cranially), which are stiffer, that might have fooled you.

The cock has a deep shiny red/brown colour, while the hen is "softer", with a more pronounced hint of rusty brown.

It is Chevron Hackle (UK), custom dyed by Chevron (not from my instructions but from the shop i bought it from).

I hope the picture shows this good enough.

Holy COW.....can't believe this one slipped by me..... Martin, that is GORGEOUS!! i just LOVE how you seem to love long hackle, because i do too.
i've bought some GREAT skins from Christina (Chevron), and they are big time superior hackle. i met her in England two years ago, and she's workin' on somethin' for me right now. :D Her shipping is not bad at all, so i highly reccommend her to stateside tyers. She's a master dyer.....boy can she get beautiful colors. And she has colors you just don't see over here. If anyone sees this.....ask her bout her Guinea skins, both dyed and natural.....she has skins you will not find over here. And her prices are more than fair. Nothin' in it for me.....just a happy customer. ;) Keep postin' often Martin..... 8-)
Btw, that rear view shot is way cool..... :o

I have ordered from them inthe past and they are great to work with. I bought some quail skins and two greenwell hens.
