As you know, many things have changed for me, however, I still enjoy looking at a well tied fly. This one is exceptional. That hook shape has so much implied action and breathes a lot of life into flies tied upon them. I foresee this fly as a great fish taker and I can imagine it tied in a wonderful tan color to represent a generic hatching caddis, or in other colors as well.

I am truly inspired by all the beautiful flies I see, here, and I want, desparately, to add to this forum and tie some flies. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy is causing numbness in my hands, and I go for round 6 tomorrow. I am lucky I can type a few things, here. Luckily, I can hunt and peck out a message without too much trouble. Tying is another matter, although I have not tried. Perhaps I will give it a try, soon.

Martin - Yes. I have a pipe-dream to someday write a book containing my fly tying patterns. I have collected all of my fly patterns & photos into a rough draft, but I don't know if it will ever be published... Nice to dream, though...

Thank you, Mark. I actually have you to thank for the choice of hook. I picked these hooks up at the Oak Orchard Fly shop, after seeing some of your flies tyed on them. They have such a nice shape to them, I had to buy some. I have been on a curved-hook kick lately, after watching a video about entomology. Seeing the natural motion of some insects (stoneflies, caddis larva, scuds) suggests a curved shape would be a good choice for imitations. Hopefully the color combination (tan/golden olive/yellow olive) will cover a range of different insects. The color combinations could be endless. I think a version with a rich brown thorax would be a good match for the dark wing case of an imminent hatching mayfly. The wing case supposedly turns dark, just before the nymphs emerge into adult mayflies.

Yes Mark.....many prayers headed out for you. Our numbers are strong, and we will do the job. All of us together. Your going to kick butt and come back with a vengence, tying flies like crazy and enjoying fishing again as well.

and Ray, your book WILL come out.....publishers aren't stupid, they just look out for themselves FIRST.....it's called business. But in the end, they need you more than you need them. The dream lives.....

Badda-bing! Excellent fly both wet and dry. In fact, that's what I like the most about your post now and from the past. I believe that you have done this before (the wet and dry versions) and I want to encourage you to keep doing just that! The results are stunning!
The colors you chose look remarkably like the caddis that have been hanging around the dusk to dawn lite that keeps watch over my back yard! I wish I could pickle one of them and send it to you!
