another hackle question

another hackle question
I'm working on my "hot spot" flies for the swap. My question is how long should the hackles be? Should they just touch the end of the end, just before the end, a little past the bend? I've read different things. I'm sure it depends on the type of the fly you tie. I happen to like the look of the hackle just to the end of the bend. I know I can do as I please, but I'm curious as to tradition.

First Ariel, questions like this are better over on the Cabin page.....no biggie. Second you answered you own question....."I happen to like the look of the hackle just to the end of the bend." You please yuourself FIRST & FORMOST. Don't mess it all up with throwin' the word "tradition" in there.....and actually pleasing yourself first IS, the tradition.

What Mark said. "Hot spot" soft hackle flies are hardly traditional, so you needn't worry about violating any arbitrary rules.
