This is what I came up with in an effort to showcase two materials gifted to me by our hopefully-soon-to-be healthy friend Martin ...
Wood Grouse & Picric Partridge
Hook: Daiichi 1640, #12
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer #3 Primrose
Hackle: Partridge dyed with picric acid
Body: European wood grouse feather, barbules gathered and tied in at rear by tips, then wound forward as herl

Deceptively simple fly. You make it look easy, Bill (but I know otherwise).
I love that hook, by the way. I am really surprised to read that it is a size 12. It just seems much smaller than that.

Oh WOW! that is Cool.....and your right Ray.....those bodies (when they come out like THAT), are NOT easy. You "Somethin' Else!" Bill.....
btw.......the biopsy showed the mass in my lower back to just be fatty tissue which is benign. Why in the sam hell it would come together like that, in a buldge, "After" i had just lost 35 pounds (now over 40), is WAY beyond me...........go figure. i'm gonna go on antibiotics.

Great news about the mass. Reckon what with the weight loss it (mass),
had to consolidate due to lack of cubic yardage within which to roam ...

I'm still dumb-struck by that fly, and the photo that represents it.
Masterful .....

That's so cool Bill. I absolutely love the body, you couldn't get it more perfect if you tried, it looks painted on! I love the materials you got from Martin, seriously jealous, that contrasting hackle is stunning...
You've sure done a great job of showing off the hackle and herl, I love it...
