DANG!!!!!!!!!!! i'm happier than a sissy in a boys camp...........Kelly, if you hadn't posted that cool fly of yours...........i may never have stumbled up on this fly i just did. The bent hook fly came out WAYYY Cool. Now i have 6 flies i need to photograph for the Steelie/Salmon fly flymphs thread.........but anyway.....
i have no idea how the dang thing would fish.............but it sure "Looks" cool. :D
AND, it's a classic example of what i was "thinking" with the idea for the thread itself. i used some kinna pink synthetic braid/chenille sparkle stuff for an extended tag..........from the bend to the spot where the "bending' begins. Then i tye in this real nice orange mallard feather to palmer thru the rest of the body and serve as a collar as well...........got it? Oh, and i tucked the tip of the feather underneath the tag and straped it in too. Then i realize i got no tail (and this is the "example" of fixing a mistake).........so, do i take off the Mallard feather and go back and put the tail on.......HELL no. i just cut me a few strands of some light purple/blue/pink florescent KF and reach up and in there, over the top and underneath the Mallard feather and strap in the tail. :D
Then i look around and find a travel box of some beautiful dubbing from Mad River which is Hare's Ear & antron in 12 different colors...........so i grab the pink/greyish stuff and do a body, then palmer the Mallard feather thru it and add a couple turns for a collar, and BINGO! DONE DEAL....fairly decent orange head and i'm home free. GOTTA love it when it goes that smouvve.......... 8-) THANKX for postin' that fly on 12-28-11 :D

Very innovative Kelly. I like these.

FWIW I like the hackle tied this way. When you fish them it sweeps back in the way we are used to seeing it BUT it stays much more loose and doesn't cling to the body. Did that make sense? Anyway fish them and see what I mean. :D

Vicki.....that's VERY typical Japanese ****.........they've never "invented" SQUAT!......That's not their ****.....But they are FAMOUSE for the making of a WAY MO BETTER mouse trap. "Whatever" it is.........you give it to 'em.......and they'll give it back to you on a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. Buddisum for example..........you name it, from race cars to cameras.........if you ever go there you'll see things you will not BAlieve. Blew my mind.........i stayed at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo.....right across the street from the Imperial Palace.....and they have their own grocery store on the property.........UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! Actually you could live on the New Otani property for your entire life and never want for anything....it absolutely amazing. When we check out of a hotel in Japan.....we just leave our bags in the hallways right outside our individual room doors. When we get to the next hotel, check in, and go to our rooms.........there's our individual bags, already in the rooms wating for us................. :D...............nnniiiccceee........sure made my job easy. Even at the airport upon arrival.........some cat meets me at the gate, and goes with me to the baggage claim, and i show him which are our bags as they come off the conveyor and which belongs to who. When we get to our rooms, our bags are already in our rooms before we are. "Something Else"........which happens NOWHERE else in the world. You don't wanna know what happens other places.....     :? :x

i can just see the first Japanese Tenkara cat who got hold of a western soft hackle 200 + yrs. ago.....cat said, "i don't think so".....then he went to work......key word is, "so." :D

Thanks so much for the kind comments, and encouragement. I am glad that I might have inspired you by my flies here. I know I was inspired by Dougden's fly initially. There were also some posts with Tenkara on them in November. (maybe Dec too) That also was inspiring to me! I had no desire to tie one Tenkara fly before...but had never seen more than a couple. Then I saw some real beauties here, and I saw art in motion. I could see the fish taking this fly. So, I am going to make a couple more of these unweighted. I have two weighted with a small amount of lead tape. But after reading comments, I am going to try it another way too. Thanks so much for your thoughts, for those that left a little note here.

What a delicious looking fly Kelly. I really love the look of this one, thanks for sharing it. :D
I think it's safe to say I'll be adding some to my fly box and feeding them to a trout or two back home in Australia and NZ. I'll post the results for you as I'm sure there'll be some takers. ;)

Kelly, those look fabulous! You've got quite the creative head sitting on your shoulders. 8-)
That hook gives the fly that buggy look I think, very cool. Get out and fish 'em and let us know if they produce!

Holy Crap, do you have any idea how deadly these look? I'm a fan of the tenkara flies, from the sidelines for some time, but these are really irresistible. I especially like the very lifelike profile and liveliness of the thorax aside from what the hackle is going to do in the stream. Just beautiful ties. Thanks so much for posting these.
