Hans, I haven't ventured into split thread bodies in a few years when I first tried with Pearsall's silk with less than stellar effect. But you have put a lot of time into getting the touch just right and I'm always compelled to get some of this thread and spend some time working it out. It just looks very effective.

CB, The only answer I can think of is that it depends on the amound and density of the dubbing. Could be anywhere in between.

Just got back to the forum as I am travelling in Oz.
Now Hans, how did you achieve that look. The question is important as experience indicates to me that the hackles do not flow back onto the body as in the picture. Rather, they remain fairly upright when fished. Mike posted about this some time back.
The only time I see a game feather come back onto the body like that is when I have lifted a fly out of water or placed it under a running tap.
That is the beauty of game feathers, they do not collapse where other feathers do.

I took that shot to illustrate the wet look of the body construction. The hackle stands out quite proud when the fly is suspended in water, and only collapses when pulled out of the H2O.
