Hare's Lug and Plover

Re: Hare's Lug and Plover
Mataura Mayfly, I used the actual hair ear fur for this fly. I thought it was the most appropriate. I did not even really think about other parts of the mask for the fly. Now I have...lol, since you said that. I still have other parts of the mask that need to be experimented with. I think this fur was perfect though for this pattern.
Ray, I have some of those doll eyes. I got a shiver just imaging what that would look like.
I am very happy that you liked my latest fly. This fly was fun for me to do.

Did you have some ears already? I think the bag of "ear" hair was from between the ears and not off of the ear itself. (If I remember correctly!)
Will be fun for you to experiment with hairs from different sections of the mask and see the differing results within the same fly.

Re: Hare's Lug and Plover
I think the label said hare's ear. I didn't realize it was between the ears. Yes, it would be cool to see the different furs of the mask, and see what a difference it makes to the look of the fly. That is a great idea. Thank you.

Kelly,
I just wanted to say that these are my favorites of yours! Really like colors of the golden plover AND the substitute. Good job!

Thank you Tom! That was a surprise. I sure appreciate you letting me know that. I read on a website that said this fly has a traditional gold tag. (on a site that sold flies) I have not seen photos of this. Now I read a thought from someone who said Oliver Edwards tyed this with a small gold wire tag, and he wrapped three wraps of wire through the body. They are supposed to let me see a photo. Now that would be cool. The spiders for some reason although simple, are timeless. I am just drawn to tying them for some reason.

DD...I am glad you liked the fly. I don't have any Daiichi 1480 hooks. I looked up on a comparison list for that. I don't have anything for that "sports car" look...lol.

A few variations. The last link might be most interesting. I believe it's the small booklet by Malcom Greenhalg.
