I like the fly very much. I like the thicker body and thorax. Love the colors and hackle choice.

Wayne - I read thru this post with great interest. I love how you show the progression of the flies and how you were trying to adapt the tying techniques to the thicker character of the tying thread. I think this is one of the key lessons gained from using a wide range of materials. Each material behaves differently and has its challenges. You've done a beautiful job of solving the challenge presented by this thread, opening up a wide range of possibilities for future uses.

Great post, and great suggestions by all.

Hank - You have a knack for a well placed question. ;)

Here is a book by
Don Holbrook & Ed Koch:- Midge Magic - 2001

You might find it interesting, they use embroidery thread to dress very small flies.

Dubbn,
Go Ahead! Show us what you got on the "Up Town Rat". I once sent Tie2fish a fly I dubbed "Bad Hair Day". I thought it was a mess but they actually grow on you after a while!
I do know what you mean about being burned out on a certain pattern. When this happens, I get down the famous flymph box with all it's goodies inside and I chuck out a few flymphs. I find myself refreshed and after I get this out of my system, I go back to the tasks that need closer attention. Does anyone else feel the burn?

Dougsdon, I cant. I took a razor blade to it, and put the hook back in the bag it came in. Those hooks deserve better than the mess I tyed . It would have caught fish, but that is not what those hooks are all about. They are about a friendship, and doing the best job tying you can. For me those hooks are a personal high water mark. When I think I am good enough, I will tye on them again. :)

Sorry to get all sappy, but they mean alot to me. Just like the Blue Flymph pattern I use of yours.

DUBBIN, Howdy;

Ol' Bud, I've re-read your 'how-to' a few more times and still have one naggin' question ...
When you wrote;
"As I continue towards the bend, I am laying down a base of thread for the abdomen. After I reach the place I want to stop, near the bend, I have a built in handy dandy tapered body to build on. The abdomen has one layer of thread, and the thorax has two."
How did ya tye off the C&C ? single whip, drop of gorillia glue, Vulcan Mind-Meld ?????
Still have that "Inquiring Minds" thing goin' on ???? ;) :D :lol:
