Generic PMD/Caddis/Yellow Sally

Re: Generic PMD/Caddis/Yellow Sally
I did not tie it off at the bend. I wrapped forward toward the eye. You asked me how I made the taper. I made the taper by making my foundation tapered. As I wrapped forward the abdomen would have two layers, and the thorax three layers of thread. Still tapered from the foundation.

Hank, I dont have a college degree. It may take a Vulcan Mind melt to explain this.

My friend. When I post I ask myself "what is Hank gonna ask, and how will you answer?" You make me a better tyer when you do this. Keep it up (I am typing with clinched teeth)!

Re: Generic PMD/Caddis/Yellow Sally
Keep asking the question Hank, that is a very necessary function of this particular board.
A wee aside, it seems that a Yellow Sally is not the same in North America as it is in Europe.
In Europe, the "Yellow Sally" is a stonefly Isopera grammatica.
In North America it is, I think, a caddis (sedge) fly.
There are spider versions, with (Pritt's) a very pale yellow dyed cock or hen hackle
or (John Roberts) golder plover (mouse coloured with a yellow tip).
Here is John Roberts
Hook: 14-16.
Thread: Primrose.
Body: Pale yellow fur or synthetic dubbing.
Hackle: Golden plover, as above.
Here endeth the lesson

Re: Generic PMD/Caddis/Yellow Sally
Donald, I can not speak for others, but I have only known the Yellow Sally to be a member of the Stonefly family.

They are very prolific in my area. The colors vary quite a bit from river basin to basin.
The Gunnison Sallys are bright Yellow. The Colorado Sallys are dull Yellow. I dont have a trained eye for art like Mark (SoftHackle), but if I had to pick a color that resembles the Sallys on the Roaring Fork, I would say Chartreuse. Yes, my friends have questioned my eyesight when I say that.
The one thing they do have in common is thay are all Stoneflys
* Sally is a generic name for over 100 different small, light-colored stoneflies. They come in different shades of yellow, light green, and tan and range in size from one-third of an inch (#18 standard dry-fly hook) to over three-quarters of an inch (#10 3XL). The most common Sallies are of the families Perlodidae (genera Isoperla and Isogenoides) and Chloroperlidae (genera Alloperla, Suwallia, and Sweltsa). The Perlodidae are commonly called Yellow Sallies, and the Chloroperlidae are often referred to as Lime Sallies. However, the color range for both overlaps, and a lime could be a lemon and vice versa. Luckily for the angler, most can be imitated with a limited number of patterns.

Mark (Softhackle), this was kind of what I was going at on your post about the different colors of Baetis. The post I lost? That and no matter what shade of Olive, the Adams, for me, seemed to be the best dry pattern to fool the fish with.

I am getting to it just fine. It's archived, so it looks a little weird when the page first opens. After a moment or two, it opens right up. I dont know Hank.hankaye wrote:DUBBIN, Howdy;
