Bill, I tried to find this post. I remembered you had a quail pattern that was a beautiful substitute for Waterhen. In the hands of a pro it comes off just right. In my effort to slim down my tying materials...I am going to resist going straight on a search for a Gamgel's Quail...but probably not for long.

For the record, I am thrilled with the California Quail in some subsequent ties. Highly recommended.

Thanks, Valley Quail. Never heard of that, or seen it marketed as such. Good to know though. I have seen Gambel Quail for sale, and I wanted some, but it was going for too much at the time. Every time I bid on a California Quail, I lose...lol. I guess there are no bird hunters here?

Well I just scored two new Pukeko skins yesterday, have a GP and one on the hoof that I have ready access to..... he lives with some neat quail as well.
