Soft Hackle Caddis

Post by tie2fish » Wed Apr 04, 2012 9:04 am

Strictly a fishing fly pattern ... nothing particularly new or special, but I have high hopes for its attractiveness to the fish.

Hook: #14 - 18 wet fly or nymph hook
Thread: 8/0 Uni, olive dun
Body: Hare's mask blend in dubbing loop
Hackle: Feather from neck area of hen pheasant
Head: Peacock herl

This photo was somehow deleted from my PC library. If anyone copied it, please send it to me via email.

Great "ginger-y caddis" tie--I'd bet a lot of money that in most streams they make up the majority of the average trout's diet over the course of a year. :)

Bill - What a gorgeous fly. I hope your stocking a number of these in your fly box, for testing purposes. This looks like such a sure hit, it may be cheating on the test. The poor fish don't stand a chance... ;)

Nice work, Bill. It looks to be a killer for sure. I think I should tie up a few to try on the Genny, soon.

Strictly fishing flys are my favorite. Foo Foo flys are pretty to look at, but give me a dozen of those any day of the week and I will be happy! Very well done sir!

Great looking fishing fly. It kind of reminds me of a Picket Pin in a small way. This fly looks killer to me. Great job!

Has all the makings of a killing fly. I like the "Dark Shadows" photography too. Adds a bit of mysteriousness to it!

Love flies with a wee bit of X-Factor peacock herl in them and this is a good one.
Would not be out of place in any fly box worldwide.
