Lets see. Despite the name, the October Caddis usually makes an appearance on my local rivers in mid August. They usually only hang around for 4 to 6 weeks. Normally, I dont see an October Caddis after October 1.

That's interesting. It leads me to wonder how many different insects get called "October caddis"? The one I see on the PA spring creeks don't usually show up until late September, and I've seen them well into November. I usually fish a large (size 10 or so) partridge and orange, but yours look they would do the trick.

If I had to guess, Dubbn is fishing to the "true" October Caddis (genus Dicasmoecus) out there in Colorado while ours back East is the Great Brown Autnmn Sedge (Pycnopsyche)...not that it much matterrs to a "presentationist" like myself. (Though as the name implies, the Pycnospyche is a bit more "cinnamon" to my eyes than the real "orange-y" insect out West.) I'd fish his flies to my brookies, though. :)

Well, I got to thinkin. I have not tyed any Oct caddis in some time, I had a few drys but no s/h's. I mixed up a blend of hot orange seal, urine burned fox some Aust. possum, threw that in the coffee grinder gave a few spins and well it looks pretty good.

So I tyed a few up usin Pearsall's Hot Orange in a dubbin loop on a 3906B hook size 10 and 12 a ginger variant hen hackle, well they look pretty darn good.
