Nice, I have a special feeling with peacock herl flies..... they just "work".

I did dress another Grayling fly -
the Yellow Bumble, but it did not come out so well.
I have to tie 'by guess and bygum' these days.

I can empathise with the Bumbles and Dabblers.
My eyes ain't 20/20, but they are not too bad...... still having trouble getting those two styles to look "correct".

I have never fished Grayling, methods might differ a wee bit from trout? But I know trout love simple done well, especially with herl flies. Donald you will know just how many "variations" of herl wet, spider soft hackle flies there are, most of them simple looking flies, but great fishing flies.
When times are tough and fishies aint a biting, I often turn to a red-tag or similar to provoke a response.... if that does not induce a strike..... I go home.

Simple flies tied well catch fish!

I think that 'Witch' would be a good fly for the North American cutthroats and brookies. Will try a few more tomorrow.

Ha, I was just thinking the same thing: my "specks" (the local name for brook trout in this part of the world) would be all over these.

Donald, these are a couple of very fishy classics. I am especially lovin the body of that second fly. The way the floss reads with the hackle looks very natural. I like it a lot.

Donald - "Catching a grayling" is on my bucket list. I hope to have a few flies like these to bring a grayling to-hand. Lovely flies.
