Red Starling & Claret Silk

Post by tie2fish » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:18 pm

Seeing Jon's (CreationBear) wonderful use of dyed starling recently started me looking for a starling skin dyed red that I found in the Dette Fly Shop in Roscoe this spring. Here is the result, and please excuse the tiny bits of wax that managed to stick to it ...

Red Starling & Claret Silk
Hook: Daiichi 1640, Size #16
Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer # 14, claret, waxed
Hackle: Starling dyed red
Tag and rib: Silver wire, XX-fine
Body: Thread wraps

Gorgeous pattern, and I really like the hook you chose. It's always a pleasure to view your patterns. Class, and fishability rolled into one fly.

Bill, this is great. I'm wishing now I had stocked up on some dyed starling. This is a beautiful combo.

Classic, indeed: I bet that's a great color combination for this time of year when the sun stays low against the horizon. BTW, I always love the wire-work on your spiders--a great accent (for human eyes, at least) against the waxed silk.

Looks like a book cover shot, to my eye.

"By the book" perfect...

Lovely wee spider, Bill.
