Playing with CDC
Have some CDC of different colors and wanted to see if it would be practical to use it as hackle, combined with "normal" hackle.
The stem of the CDC is kinda thick, but not too much so.
Hook - TMC 3761 Size 12
Thread - 14/0 Cinnamon
Body - Dark Hare's Ear on a dubbing noodle
Hackle - Rear - CDC White
Front - Hen, Speckled Brown

Now that is one seductive pattern...

Re: Playing with CDC
That CDC will create so much movement in the water adding to the fishability (is that a word) to that fly. It's great and thanks for sharing it

Re: Playing with CDC
Should be an interesting hackle variation to fish, especially with the light colouration of the CDC versus the dark fly body. Be keen to see the wet version.

Re: Playing with CDC
I would bet that thing will go crazy in the water. Hope you tied a bunch because I can see the fish eating that thing up.

Re: Playing with CDC
-Well done, excellent flies.
Re: Playing with CDC
This is a beautiful fly, combining the CDC and speckled brown hen. There seem to be some long, pale fibers in the dark hare's ear body, or is that just some of the CDC?

Re: Playing with CDC
Lance - I took the dubbing from an old box I had, which I had labeled Dark Hare's Ear, some time ago. After reading your post, I took another look at the dubbing. It does appear to have some white fibers in it. Might have been some sort of a mixture I made long ago and far away. Don't know what the white would be, might even be a little CDC, or possibly rabbit. Gotta start labeling stuff better.

Re: Playing with CDC
Rodger, my initial thought was that this was going to make a pretty large profile, all materials included, but it registered immediately that a diving caddis would embody all of these elements and the action should be deadly. It's a beautiful fly. Nice use of the cdc.

Re: Playing with CDC
Beautifully accomplished. It is not easy getting two hackles on sparse patterns.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.
