Donald, fantastic looking pair, just a hint of the wire in the second, but different none the less and gives the option of fishing both in a team to cover two sections of the water column.

How are you wrapping the herl, all tied at the tips near the bend and wrapped up? Or one up-one down-one up? I am guessing the former with the nice taper you are getting.

Donald, these are wonderful to see. You really could fill a box with these and be a very happy guy. These are beautifully done and wonderfully presented. Thanks for sharing these and keep up the good work, offering up some more traditional patterns that could save the day on any given outing.

The herl was twisted and wrapped with the tying thread, a little bit of back-wrapping at the area. I chose the CdL Brown Speckled because it seemed the most suitable, and I like it a lot. There was a need for a wingless version of the Alder and there it was in Turton by courtesy of Roger Fogg. Versions using wire etc make it, as Jeff said, available on various levels and real killers during an Alder fall, all good ploppers. Read all about fishing them as Alders in Dave Hughes book "Wet Flies". ;) :)
