Blue Pennell



Green Pennell



Same dressing as the Black Pennell, but I left off the tags and dyed the feather for the tail myself with food colouring . Dyed blue, it looked green when I tied the blue one, so I tied a green and it looks blue! Both look blue-ish in the photos.

Now you might call this a Silver Zulu, except for the dyed goose quill slip tail instead of a wool tag it is.

Might have to find a new background for that one, the blue colouration of the hook kind of disappears into the background.

Purple is a staple steelhead color all right, and that one of your looks like a killer. Have to admit though, the Gold and Purple looks like a winner swung from a 14 foot two hand rod. Great dressings, Mate.

Mark would have love seeing these, and his hooks being put to good use. Misako gave me close to two hundred dollars worth of assorted hooks, which I have distributed to various folks during the year. The remainder were given away in support of a local kids tying event. I think the kids will get a kick out of the wild colors.

These are gorgeous. The application of giant soft hackles for sea run fish is an idea that I have seen come up once in a while, but I don't know how successful it has been. At those sizes, what might the fish take them for? Or does it even matter, so long as they bite? Carl Old Hat has experimented with them. Stendalen was posting some big flymphs for seatrout in January, under Soft Hackle Seatrout flies collection:
