Fantastic result! I simply love it.

That is absolutely fantastic. Such a nice effect with the amount of dubbing used and the contrasting thorax. This is nice.

Rodger - This seems like a challenge. What kind of advice can you offer, regarding proportions and technique that gives the best results? I'd like to try this myself, and am hoping you can shorten my learning curve.

Oh, beautiful fly, by the way.

Thanks for the kind comments.
Ray - There is no special technique, mostly trail and error, as in most of my tying. Combining the abdomen and thorax in the same loop takes a couple of tries before I can get it looking right, proportion wise, as far as how much dubbing for each needs to go in the loop. My wife has been commenting on my use of "helping words" during this process. For the size 12 TMC3761 shown (1X long) I find about 1 1/2" for the abdomen and 1/2"+ for the thorax seems to work out OK. I tried doing this in a dropped loop, and that's where the "helping" words came in. MUCH easier and more consistent to do on the spinning block.

Very striking fly, both visually and to trout I would imagine!

If "helping words" are any measure of success, I am well on my way to mastering the @#@$ @%$%$ technique! (humor/kidding)

I tried it on my dubbingblock and because I make two flies of one dubbingbrush I tried to make two darker pieces in one dubbingbrush. Your fly is better much better, than mine.
