Just Playing...

Post by letumgo » Mon Mar 04, 2013 8:16 pm

Here are a few patterns I tyed this last weekend. I consider them just prototypes. Just playing around with materials and techniques to see if anything looked promising. Several flies are crude, but still fun to try.

DMC 725 Caddis (experimenting with embroidery yarn and sharpie markers)

Turkey Quill Nymph (fuzzy body nymph): I bought a few dyed turkey quills last week and wanted to see if the fibers could be used to make fuzzy nymph bodies. I tyed in a couple fibers by the tip, and then twisted them in a thread dubbing loop before winding them forward. The rear section has two fibers. The thorax used three fibers to and closer wraps, to create a slightly thicker profile. I am happy with how this turned out. Simple, and very durable little nymph pattern.

Glanrhos Style Soft Hackle: I've always loved the Glanrhos style flies (and henwing flies for that matter - very similar)

Jeff - This one is tyed on one of those hooks you sent over after your trip. Thank you!

Wool Scud (UNI Yarn body - split and wool dubbing inserted/twisted/wound and then trimmed)

All very interesting. I also like the Glanrhos style. I was tying and fishing a peacock and starling of this style long before I had any idea it was a style. Still a great fly. I like the way starling has those little white tips.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

These all have potential, Ray, but I like the "rock worm" the best of the lot.

I love to see these. Playing is working out for you. That turkey herl "buzzer" or pupa fly really does it for me too. Beautiful job across the board. Nice group.
