And the winner is.... 500 flies

Post by fflutterffly » Tue Mar 26, 2013 11:44 am

After many emails and few responses Casting for Recovery Southern California will be receiving the 500 flies I tied late last year. With a change in our local C4R coordinator, now Bonnie Anderson, it was made clear that they were extremely interested in the flies. I know in the past many of you had volunteered your time and donated flies for an auction that, as yet, had not happened. But with this new administration I know all the flies will now be used for their intended purpose, raising money for the facilitation of the retreats for anyone suffering from Breast Cancer. I will keep you posted on those auction a soon as I have more information.
I'd like to take a moment and thank you all once again for the time and effort you've given and I can assure you I will help this coordinator fully with distribution and fund raising of your kind gifts.

Thanks
Ariel

A very deserving recipient. The "500" will do well there.
CFR has just started to get a foot hold here in NZ, made the national television news a couple of weeks ago, good to see. I may have to look into doing something similar for the local chapter. :D

Great organization, and a fitting home for your generous donation. So very cool.

Ariel,
I sent a hundred of these and some nymphs to the Dallas chapter back around October of last year.

If y'all will look at their website, they usually will have a list of flies that work well for the water they will be fishing. ( This is for flies to be fished, not auction flies.) They also seem to take the clients out in groups of 14 down here.

They are lucky to have those flies. They will be smiling big when they see them. Great stuff Ariel. :D

As the new Program Coordinator of Casting for Recovery of Southern California I want to thank all of you! Many of you selflessly dedicated your time and efforts to tie flies for an auction that never evolved. There will be an auction this year and other efforts so C4R of So. CA will have their first fly fishing breast cancer retreat. Thank you all for your support!

Bonnie,
If there is a website for the auction, please come back and give us an address. We may want our stuff back.

Crazy I'll pass the message on to Bonnie ASAP and let her know about your request. I've met with her several times and she seems to be genuinely aggressive about making C4R move forward. You can actually write her from this forum by posting to her name.
Thanks.

I have just started a series of flies in a similar vein for the new local chapter. Might not end up at 500 as the chapter here is quite small compared to the States and has just a couple of retreats planned for next year, both of which are on strange (to me) waters involving Lakes and North Island rivers, so I am planning on generic patterns rather than specific flies for the waters planned.
Retreats here are also for groups of 14, so I was thinking several patterns in groups of 14.

Looking at that neat pink bug above, maybe that could be a fly swap theme, pink flymph/soft hackles, with a spare set that could be auctioned with proceeds going to a designated chapter? Could cause some interest with the set containing flies from some well known tiers and some international flavour.
Of course you know who would have to host the swap- I mean with the experience she holds of CFR and the contacts that have already been formed. :D

I fished in a two fly contest to raise money for CFR last year, one of the rules was that one of the flies had to conspicuously incorporate pink. (Since the contest was fishing over stocked rainbows, that wasn't too much of a handicap.)
