Hydropsychidae

Last week when I was floating the river, I noticed I was low on Hydropsychidae larva. In fact, I was out of this particular pattern. I believe a Peacock and Partridge does a good job imitating this particular net builder, but I have a lot of confidence in this pattern as well. I need to tie more than this amount, but I just ran out of tubing.

Hook - Mustad C67S, size 12..... I am really liking this hook for more than just egg patterns.
Thread/Abdomen - Bennechi 12/0, Olive
Rib - Clear Midge tubing with a Black wire core.
Thorax - Equal parts of Wee Folk Dubbing, Olive, Rainbow, and Brown
Collar - Brown Hen Hackle



Amazes me how the Hydropsychidae larva can be different colors in different sections of the same river. That being said, this color does very well for me most any where I fish it.

The tubing and wire you use a lot sure does make a nice job of building abdomens!
That is a nice hook, the angle of the point to the bend seems a lot more open, thus giving a wide gape and forged for strength.
Not being familiar with a lot of the Mustad pattern hooks (an too lazy to look) is this hook a specific egg pattern hook and that is why it is formed with the wide gape because of the bulky egg patterns usually tied on it?

Jeff, the hook is a very stout 2XH wire. I stumbled on it by accident a few years ago when i could not get DaiRiki 135's, in 16 or 14. For anything larger than a 14, I am using the Mustad after all the Dai-Riki's run out . The hook is listed as a Caddis and a Egg hook.

I like the body of the clear tubing with the wire inside. That's a neat trick and I've never seen it before. Looks good.

Dubbn, that is one hell of a tie, very tight looking trio. Me like
I'll have to have a go at the wire inside the tubing technique, looks awesome.
