Biot and Aussie Extension 1250

Post by William Anderson » Thu May 09, 2013 3:52 pm

One of my last flies to make it to photobucket before the crash. I have flies to rephotograph. All in time.

This is the biot from the flight edge of a natural turkey wing, an aussie opossum thorax and "thorax extension" with a medium dun hen hackle. #14 Daiichi 1250 and black 14/0.

Treading on dangerous ground there W. That thorax, the top of it....... could almost be classes as a hair wing? :P
Nice tie, like the natural biot- don't often see un-dyed these days.

"Thorax extension?" :D Good one.

This is an impressive fly. May I ask: Doesn't the biot stay relatively stiff? I can see where the Aussie possum would collect air for bubbles as an excellent emerger pattern.

William - Somehow, I never figured you would be into hair extensions. (humor)

PS - Great fly, btw. ;)

Thanks Kelly. This is one of those combos that looks like it should work out under some conditions. I like these turkey wings and the biots are actually easier to wrap than the dyed store bought variety. They still require a soft tie in and light tension. Just wipe the thread underwraps with head cement before wrapping forward.

Ray, you're day is coming. you'll be looking at those bosley commercials with more interest than you expect. =).

Great looking pattern Mr. Anderson. The tip on applying head cement to the underside of the biot is great!
