Alaska, for me, is the dream trip of the future.

Yeh, me too! Four weeks there would make me a very happy man!
(Alas my wife thinks Alaska would be hell on earth and would far prefer Paris....)

Some from down here I use a bit.. The second one probably the most successful. Also in Primrose thread.

Glanrhos Quill Starling:

Hook: 10 - 16 of choice ( This one is a Tiemco 2499SP - BL )
Thread: Olive Uni 8/0 or similar
Rib: X Fine silver (or gold) wire
Body: Olive dyed goose herl (sub for Heron)
Hackle: Starling with tip as Glanrhos style wing..

Glanrhos Burgundy Starling
(I now use Starling instead of the brown hackle so pretend the hackle is starling.. :) )

Hook: 14 - 18 of choice
Thread: Peasalls Burgundy
Rib: Silver or gold wire fine
Hackle/Wing: Starling (Or the brown hen .. still works!)

Glanrhos Olive Mouse and Brown

Hook: 16 - 18 of choice
Thread: Olive unithread 8/0 or similar
Rib: Gold or silver fine wire
Dubbing: Mouse belly fur touch dubbed on the waxed thread
Hackle/Wing: Brown hen (I am lucky to have a brown Indian hen cape where the tips are black - makes for a nice wing..)

I tied a few last night, now if the rain would stop for about a week we could see how they work.
