I've tried a couple of the tools that are available, and still find it easier and faster to simply make a loop and pull the tag ends through with a tweezers.

I have seen a method in one of Skip Morris's new books which uses a simple loop of red monofiliment line. You make a the mono loop and clamp it into your vice. You then have both hands free to manipulate the pheasant tail fibers. To use the "tool", simply lay the pheasant tail fiber behind the loop and then wrap both ends forward and cross them in front. then insert the tip-ends of the pheasant tail fibers thru the center (middle) of the mono loop. As you pull the peasant tail fibers off the end of the loop, it will be tyed into a knot. I haven't tried the method yet, but it looks like it would work very well. I like the fact that it is a cheap "tool" and that it leaves both of your hands free to manipulate the fibers.

A small crochet hook is my tool of choice. Make a simple loop, bend the shaft so it crosses the loop on the reverse side and flick the fibre(s) through. You can do it with a standard bodkin needle, but the crochet hook is faster. Crack a beer, sit in front of the TV and bang off 30 or 40. It goes pretty quick after the first couple.
