Thanks Ray,
I have always collected fly fishing books since I took it up 35 years ago. Most of my collection is stored back in Australia and I need to think about getting them to me in the UK.
I keep flicking through them, grabbing information or reading a single chapter.
It is amazing how much information in the past is relevant today.
In fact, one could say 'what goes around comes around' as I find there is very little new to us (materials aside) and for some strange reason we keep re-inventing the wheel.

That looks like a fantastic collection Philip! Somebody should do a guide (if it has not already been done) of the 'must read' books in the historical development of fishing the wet fly.

Me, when confronted with so much written material, I suffer from information overload. My brain sort of seizes up, and I cannot bring myself to read a single word of anything. Then I go fishing and feel a lot better. ;)

Thanks a lot guys. Abe books just got more of my money thanks to the postings here. I looked at The Anglers Vade Mecum but the price was waaaaay beyond my limited budget. I'll have to settle for the on line version.

Modern Trout Fly Dressing (1932) by Roger Woolley
A huge number of patterns and one of the best fly
tying tips books I have ever read.
Not very impressive at first appearance but do not
be fooled. It is also one of the best buys around.
Now out of print, but there are lot on AB Books,
at very low prices.
Hi Donald, made a note to get this book after your recommendation. Arrived this morning - what a cracking little book! So thanks for that, 12 pounds well spent.

I have a modest collection of flyfishing books both modern and historical. I have always gravitated towards wet flies and soft hackle authors.
This thread has stirred my book lust something terrible !!
