For just a few dollars more then the DBD, you can fly into St Louis for the Ozark Fly Fishers' all day program with Davy, (02/18/12)! Then... drive across the State of Missouri, fish the Trout Parks or try your hand at Tannycomo, a Power Dam type tail waters. Stretch the trip, by dropping South from there and experience the rest of the White River System, in the area of Mountain Home & Bull Shoals, Ar.! (Share the gas, lodging and your own eats, I can take up to three with me for a few days, spin on these waters, and get you back to St Louis to fly out!) Not responsible for weather conditions! As its February, expect anything (-20 to 50's!! Calm to gale force winds! ).
Just saying!

Currently i'm goin' through a few health problems, so i have no idea what kinna shape i'll be in by then. But if i'm able to, i would love to fish with you. We'll have to wait and see. ;) p.s. seems to me that you'd serve yourselves much better by just waiting til March, so you can attend the Sowbug Roundup as well..... :D

Willowhead!
That would be a forfeit of a perfectly good reason to go two months in a row! Did my wife put you up to make that suggestion? Who side you on?
I'm still hoping "someone" will take me up on this "idea"!

P.S.
This post is a blatant effort to hijack a thread, in an effort to justify the addictive habit of fly fishing.

Well,
I was fortunate to get this DVD from Chris yesterday.
Fantastic DVD and there are lots of things that a 'wet fly' man can learn.
Chris asked my how it differed from what I do using NCF's.
There is a difference and the type of fly probably dictates much of what Davy does.
I have answered him with a lengthy reply but to go into detail would require quite a large post.
On this DVD, I applaud Davy with his informative relaxed style.
Only one comment, ALL river fishermen (not just those in the States) should try these traditional techniques. They would become better fishermen than just sticking to a easy method such as the 'dry fly'.
Have a great festive season everybody.

Philip,
We often cast aside tried and true methods and materials for those that are new, exotic and different. Human nature is like that-- always looking for a better way. Not that that is bad in itself, it's just that our, often, over zealous approach leads us to forget our past. That, to me, is a shame. We need to look back as well as forward to insure the quality of our future.

Is the idea to become the best "traditionalist" wet fly fisherman you can be or to become the best fisherman one can be. Of course they are not mutually exclusive. IMHO, with the first one would want to dedicate themselves to the one discipline and master it if possible. The second would mean studying all types of angling and doing all you can to incorporate the information on the water. I favor the latter, usually dedicating each year to something new, ie fishing only wet flies for the first half of the day. So the DVD's give me the information I needed to apply the techneque's from both Edwards and Davy W.

Howdy All;

Adapt, Overcome, Survive ....

I believe in trying to learn as much as I can so that I can 'adapt' to each situation.
If doing the upstream method works ... do it. If down works ..... do it. Why in the world
would someone quit fishin' because the method they 'prefer' isn't correct for the situation?
Talk about cuttin' off your nose to spite your face... stupid !!!
Me I like to fish. Not sit on the bank and watch others fish..... Unless I've just arrived and
am acclimating to the stream/pond/lake/whatever...

Disclaimer:
The above views experssed are MINE :? ... you of course are entitled to your own... :D :D :D
This is NOT ment to be argumentive, merely my thoughts, such as they are...
