I had never heard of Datus Proper, his works sound like they could be an interesting read, but that does not make
him right on the Daiichi 1640/Drennan hooks for Spiders. I started using them when they were recommended by Roger Fogg in
his 1988 book "A Handbook of North Country Flies". The hooks were originally sold to Coarse fishermen, mainly the carp
specialists. The main reason for their appeal to me, was their straight eye got closer to the eyeless hooks of the mid 19th
century. They also proved to be very successful for spiders. They are not necessarily the perfect hook for all occasions.
I have a rather untidy section on hooks on my site, I now have a reason to re-organise it.
