You got it, Gig. Just let me put together a few that meet the criteria a little better and you can put them to the test. I would appreciate that.

Okay, so following this first set of Tenkara flies, I feel like I made a couple of obvious (obvious now) changes. This moves closer to the more traditional flies, while maintaining it's fussy, Western attitude. :D

Black Gnat Kebari 1250, crow herl twisted with claret silk and black hen hackle.

And Hank wanted to see the first one wet, so I dunked this one...which only shows the tonal change of the silk, but it's something.

Dub-ya, Howdy;

From my own (limited), experience with the Black Gnat,
you've accomplished alot just getting the thread and Crow hurl
together on the hook ;).
You've also made a great lookin' offering.
Thanks for the wet shot :mrgreen:

Thanks Bill, sometimes the twains just work out well.
Hank, thanks. The crow feathers are above average size. I bought another batch that is smaller, almost as small as magpie. The method I've adopted lately is to tie in a few herl fibers and tie in two lengths of silk and twist the herl with one length of silk, just a spin or two. This will make a less uniform rope when you add the second length and twist a couple more times. Shows more silk as well and makes the wrapping a faster less frustrating (breakage) process.

William, this is a great sting. These Tenkara posts really blossomed while I was elsewhere, and now I'm having trouble catching up.
My Dad was addicted to black gnats, especially as a dropper fly. I love everything about these.
