It's the dark phase of the ringneck hen, the feathers are fairly soft.

Both the fly and the photo are beautiful, and the bird skin looks wonderful -- almost like English grouse. I have never seen a hen pheasant in this color phase. Are there any more where this came from?

If the hen is anything like the male, the stems will flatten a great deal when tied down. I have even doubled the stem back over itself a few times to help create a taper for the underbody.
This is marvelous, I really like that hen skin, too. I think my Ringneck skin is the single best $25 I've spent in flytying.

Really nice work on the fly and a great looking Pheasant skin you have to play with.
