Tim, this looks like a fly that could occupy a row in my box. I know for some presentations the glassier hackle is desirable. I usually look for more webby hackle, but then I know there is a time and place for each construction. Nicely done.
No room for comment on the hook. I can't tell from the pic if this is a very dark hook or if it's the shading in the image. Personally, I prefer a lighter bronze or even more crystal finish for lighter colored flies and reserve the dark hooks for dark flies. It may be just an aesthetic thing, but it makes sense to me that presenting a lighter impression could be compromised by offering a dark iron. Then again, if you look through my flies, you'll very likely find I contradict myself often. I'm fine with that too. But in the past couple of years I have tried to consider the hook finish especially when patterns become more sparse.
