I would be interested to know this too! I know mole does vary in color from one animal to another. Yours on the pattern looks as though it has a bit of finely chopped antron in it. This is above and beyond the fine silver rib which lends that same quality to the body of the fly! Antron is wonderful when blended into tying furs and carpets!

The first requirement was that it was Mole. For 2 years I subbed muskrat for it, mole was hard to find around here in the 80's, unlike today. The second consideration was dark mole as called for in the book and none of my muskrat was dark enough for me to qualify as a true Iron Blue Wingless. Now I have several shades of mole put more aside whenever I find a new variation in skins.
