Indeed, the older, wiser and more experienced we become the more we tend to separate the commercial from the reality. Most of us will have built up a largesse of commecially driven knowledge that needs divesting ASAP , not an easy task at first , but when the reality of it all sinks in , it can be done quite quickly.

What I find very interesting is digging through the older books , written and presented in a very different way to many modern commercially driven publications is that it is more difficult to discern which books are mere self promotion more than a genuine attempt at passing on knowledge. That said , nearly every angling book has value, even the worst will have some ideas that are worth our consideration.

If there aint never been a contract written that was worth the paper it was written on.....(another thing he said that is true), then there's never been a book wrote that didn't have something in it worth reading. Some people just take pleasure in doggin' others work. i like that word wrote.
And hey, even if an author is full of hisself.....don't mean someone can't enjoy the read. ACCENTUATE the positive.....you know the rest.

To continue with this thread, her is my tying of the fly.
When I research this pattern I come up with ‘orange’ as the thread to use. Most things that I see are using too bright a silk and I suggest that wherever the term ‘orange’ is used it refers to Pearsall’s 6a unless other wise stated.
So here I have used a 40 y.o waxed 6a.
