I have used the GRIP hooks for two seasons now. They are really good quality, and besides I always fish barbless. The Grip 14723BL is a favourite of mine.

Started using Mustad (R70, R60 etc) now because I got hold of a stash really cheap. Like them a lot.

i like that Togen hook there.....the emerger model.....nice hook. And the Grip that the Green Goblin is tyed on is nice.....i've never had any Togen or Grip hooks.....& definately don't plan to spend any money on Trout hooks.
Kelly, when i get a chance.....i'll jot down a few Gamakatsu model numbers for you to ask for when your down at the shop in.....wherever that is.

I just received several packs of hooks from Allenflyfishing.com size 14 and 10. I haven't started using them yet but it looks like they are of qood quality and very well priced. Check it out. I love the 310 Xa rod I got from them along with the reel and line, so I figured I'd give the hooks a go.

Thanks guys. Hank, I am reading the link you provided earlier. There is a lot more than a few paragraphs there. I am seeing more hooks, and many I have...like the 3399A and the 3906B etc... I thankfully use Open Office Writer, and I am making a file on this as I go along reading what people say. It can be overwhelming, for sure. I want to get these hooks in one localized area, now that I know which would be preferable. Mark, I found on Gamakatsu's website last night, a hook comparable chart.

It is supreme. I already jotted down a couple of hooks I want to try in the future. I scanned that list, and realized I have more Gamakatsu hooks than I had thought. I have to have a solid method to this madness. That is the problem when you tye just about every kind of fly there is....a whole plastic tub full of hooks....rotflmbo. I do have a few Allen hooks too. Justin sent me a sample pack a long time ago. I thought I might be able to squeeze these spider, soft hackle, flymph hooks in one box....now it seems I may not. It may take TWO large hook boxes to get these in....lol. That is okay, as I have two that should hold EVERYTHING. I would like to see these two threads...mine, and Hank's moved to, or at least LINK TO, the Hook reference page. That would be AWESOME.

You know what else. I had a hook file that I made about two years ago. I had most all of my hooks on there. Then if I needed some, I would know which size, because I would type...need hook size 12 or whatever. I'd show say Mustad 3906B have size 16,14, 12 need size 10..................
But since then I had trouble with my computer, and had to reformat. This is what happens when you are in the OFC, you forget things. Now I need to get that list, and update it too. I am going to do that after I decide how I am going to arrange my hooks in boxes. I seriously have a tub of hooks. Not to the top of course, but that sucker is heavy. Many of those hooks are classics I bought off Ebay at one time or another.

I went back to see my Hook List file. Only 4 pages were there. So Carbonite let me down. Oh my word, I am gonna have to basically RE-DO that whole entire list.... you know that scream that guy does on the movie Home Alone? (you know the famous scream, worth a million dollars at least) I just finished one similar to that!!

I have been using the Mustad 94842 as a light-wire hook, and J. Stockard has a nice heavy wet fly hook that makes a nifty-looking fly. I recently picked up some spider-style hooks from England that are nice as well, plus Daiichi 270's have a profile that is pleasing to me.

Ah, I have the 94842 by Mustad, and I do like it. Who makes J Stockard's hooks?

According to what Mark L. told me the Mustad 94842 was one of the hooks Vern Hidy liked for flymphs. I also saw recently a discussion somewhere on the boards about the merits of the round bend Mustad R70 a good wet fly hook with a round bend. There are not many out there. Leisenring liked the round bend, but also liked a sproat bend hook as well. Look:

I don't know who makes their hooks, but you can check them out on their website.
